Tony was born Nov. 28, 1917, on a farm four-anda- half miles southwest of Gerald as the first born to Tony and Mary (Scherloski) Hruska. As a teenager, Tony was involved in various agricultural clubs in the Gerald area and competed successfully
in interprovincial competitions. After high school Tony took a
number of farming courses at the University of Saskatchewan and
conducted junior cereal grain trials in his area for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.
In 1941, Tony moved out to Vancouver and attended the Mechanical
Industries Technical Institute for one year. He graduated as an aircraft sheet metal technician and began working for the repair department at a Bowing aircraft plant on Sea Island. A year
later his division of Bowing was taken over by Canadian Pacific Airlines and Tony was transferred to a plant on Lulu Island in New Westminster. At this plant Tony acted as one of the “safety officers” ensuring the safety of plant workers, but the bulk of
his responsibilities involved undercover work investigating and preventing enemy sabotage at the plant. During his time in B.C., Tony became involved with his local parishes as an usher, chairman of publicity, and as coordinator of activities for the
Catholic Youth Organization.
After the war, Tony returned home to Saskatchewan and began a 20-year farming career, followed by employment with IMC, Tag’s Plumbing and Heating and Tux Plumbing and Heating. Tony
married his wife Theresa Neumeier in 1951 and they enjoyed 58 wonderful years together. Tony was a perpetual student, always thirsty for knowledge, and was known to write articles which required a dictionary for interpretation.
Tony is survived by daughters Pat Wasiuta and Colette (Gerry) Petras; son Gordon; grandchildren Jessica and Julian Petras; sisters Melvina Hruska and Dolores (Carl) Psutka;
brother George (Annie) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tony was predeceased by his loving wife Theresa; brothers Victor
and Stanley.
