March 26, 2009 - ThursdayToday is the first week of having one of our dreams come true and it has been a wonderful experience. "The Girls" have been with us for 7 days. It is unbelievable that they have only been here that long and we are all so close already. These gentle giants are inspiring, like walking amongst elephants with a teddy bear attitude. Talking about walking..... the girls were only here with us for a few hours when they decided to go check out the yard. It was late evening and a creepy "I am being watched" feeling had come over my hubby as he was about to take a bath. He looked out the window to see three beautiful ladies watching him get undressed... Dream come true for hubby? No... he had to go out and put them back in. Hmmm... had we not tied the gate good enough? We found out a few more hours later..... around 5:30 in the morning we noticed the girls were not in the pasture! We checked the yard, but no. We drove down to the end of the lane, but no. I stayed with the kids while Greg took the jeep and went looking. After a bit I went to the end of the driveway and could here the distinct clop clop of giants coming, followed by the Jeep. So we did learn that one of the girls can undo knots and such, and we put a chain on the gate! AMANDA: The leader of the pack has given us the OK. She was the first to come up for attention and is always the last to leave it. She loves to put her head down for a forheaded togetherness hug. She also loves to stand broad of the fence so that our middle child can come in for a hug. She will stand for hours like this I am sure as the two of them have a thing going on. I don't know what the little guy will do when both Glider and Amanda are in the same pasture vying for his attention! LARA: The mother to Sally and a quiet girl. She is much like Harem. Getting old and a can take it or leave it attitude. She stays off to the sidelines but will come in for attention from our youngest. Lara is also the first to come over to investigate something that is going on. Whether the pail just poured water or not, she still needs to check it incase the snack is hidden on the bottom still. SALLY: Big & Beautiful at only 4 years old. And Playful. So big and playful its like having a 1800 Lb Beethoven (St. Bernard) hanging around. She loves to taste things. A nip here and there to see if the gloves have anything in them or a wiggle of the jacket to see if anything falls out of the pockets. She is very curious and loves to play games. Her favourite thing to do is put her foot up on the water pail while she drinks. I guess she doesn't want to fall in, ha ha. Being the youngest does have its drawbacks, as she gets a bit nervous with the smell of the wind at times, but atleast now I know that darn wolf ain't coming back into the yard!
