April 23, 2009 - Thursday

This week has been all about spring....

Spring is in the air... Mariah fooled us in the wee hours of Steven's Birthday on April 20th. I was in feeding Doma and heard her lay down. Then I heard some heavy breathing and a bunch of grunting. I finished feeding Doma and then went to look in on Mariah. She was laying in the middle of her stall and was looking severely uncomfortable. I was sure it was time.

So I sprinted to the house and grabbed the hubby, the lights, the camera and the camcorder... yeah I was gonna catch some part of it one way or another! I was prepared. But it didn't happen. We kept an eye on her checking every half hour only to have her stand up at about 5:00 am and look at us like "Why haven't you been doing chores yet?".

On Tuesday the Belgians had formed a majority and decided it was time to look for greener pastures. It was either that or a field stubble fire giving them the heeby jeeby's. They had it in their mind to head off. We woke up to Amanda and Sally heading to the Northwest opening of the yard, already out of their pasture... Lara was just hanging and eating the fresh bale we had just put in the day before.

It took most of the day, but we did manage to keep the horses in and get a perimeter fence up all the way around the yard. We also managed to make a couple of pastures and a gate so that we could put the horses and other animals from one pasture to another.

Today we spent the day cleaning up the old corral off the barn. It had been mangled and driven over and three kinds of fences nailed to it. Between some heaving tugging on our part and a few pulls with the jeep, we managed to get everything off except for the nice 6 line barb wire fence around it. It will be a nice spot for light training and letting Doma out to run around in. I think Mariah and her little one will enjoy some time in it as well!
